Rocking on Along

Finally got to a stopping point that I am comfortable with at about 7pm last night. Sat on the porch and listened to thunder. I could smell the rain and I could see the rain but it didn't rain at the ranch. Town got about 1/2 inch from the reporters I talked to this morning.

My commute to town this morning was quite pleasant. Saw a handful of jackrabbits and cottontails hopping along the county road. Scared a herd of axis deer as I got closer to the highway. There was one really nice buck, some young bucks and does watering at a community stock tank in a neighbor's pasture.

The cats are driving me crazy and I'm afraid they are pushing Sam's patience. Gray Cat insists on jumping on the dining table and that's taboo. He knows better because we had to break him of it when we lived in town. Daisy wants to jump on the kitchen counter --- again, we had to break her of that bad habit once before. Daisy has this tone of voice that grates on my nerves when she yowls during the night. I did manage to coax all three cats outside at 3am. They wanted back inside by 5:30am. Simba has become extremely vocal since the move. All three felines find "hidey holes" and nap most of the day. But like vampires, they are nocturnal creatures and roam at night. Today is the first day they will be by themselves with Sam. They will have to understand that house rules are house rules.

I am looking forward to our 3-day weekend if for no other reason than to have some downtime. No plans to go to the river because of the water traffic our rivers attract during the weekend and especially during a holiday weekend. Just give me a good book and peace and quiet.
